Global Youth Connect

During this GYC program, young leaders from New York City will join with activists from outside NYC (e.g. Rwanda, Bosnia, China, the greater-USA) in a special summit to explore the human rights situation in New York City and to contrast the situation in NYC with that of the home areas of the visiting youth. All together, the intercultural teams will take concrete action in volunteer placements with NYC grassroots organizations to support current and future efforts for human rights in New York City and compare the work in NYC to that in the home areas of the visiting youth. Site visits in the inaugural 2012 program included the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, Witness.org, Human Rights Watch, Children’s Defense Fund, New York City Coalition Against Hunger, among others. Volunteer placements in 2013 include: The New York City Coalition Against Hunger, The Floating Hospital of Long Island City, Children’s Defense Fund, and many other local entities. Optional placements at the United Nations NGO Committee.
