Exchanges

BHSEC’s  international exchange programs are educational in nature and in most cases involve both a home stay in the nation visited and the responsibility of hosting visitors when they are here. Applicants must be in good standing in all of their classes.

SPAIN: Open to 10th grade, Y1s & Y2s
A language focused trip. Students will take about 4 hours of classes a day. They will take a placement exam as soon as they arrive to the program to placed in the most adequate class level.

Exchange Component: No exchange component
Cost: The 2013 program fee will be announced as soon as possible. Last year the fee was $1,450 + $200 in fundraising per student + $50 to subsidize the participation of a student otherwise unable to participate in this program, but this year’s prices will probably increase because of the change in airline prices.
Financial Aid: A partial or full scholarship may be available upon the demonstration of need.

ISTANBUL, TURKEY: Open to 10th grade & Y1s
Join the Turkish Exchange Program for its 7th year of bringing together students from Bard High School Early College and Kabatas Erkek Lisesi in Istanbul, Turkey! The exchange will bring Turkish students to New York for two weeks in late January 2013 and send BHSEC students to Istanbul for two weeks at the end of March.  A one-credit course and exchange activities will help to prepare your stay in Istanbul and process your experiences.

CHINA: Open to 10th grade, Y1s & Y2s
Students will visit Shanghai and the Yali School in Changsha. Students will stay with host families in Changsha and should be ready to host Chinese students from Yali as part of a reciprocal exchange in mid- or late April.

JAPAN: Open to 10th grade & Y1s
A science focused international exchange where BHSEC students get to host a Japanese student for a week in December, work on a joint science project, and then travel to Japan and stay with their exchange partner for a week in Nagoya Japan in March.

Program Dates: Travel dates to Japan are most likely March 8 - March 17.
Exchange Component: Hosting will take place from December 15- December 23.
Cost: Cost of travel to Japan (airfare, accident and illness insurance, activity and administrative costs) is $3000.
Financial Aid: A partial or full scholarship may be available upon the demonstration of need.
