Goddard Riverside Community Center: Tutor students

Goddard Riverside Community Center is one of New York City’s leading human service organizations.

BOOK FAIR: This is a great volunteer experience for anyone who loves books. Books are donated to us from major publishing houses over the summer and in the fall we seek volunteers to help us prepare and then sell books at the fair. We need volunteers who can do the following:

  • Spend a Saturday morning unpacking boxes of books and sorting the books into categories.
  • Spend a morning or afternoon helping us sell books at the fair.
  • Click here to register to volunteer for the Book Fair

CORPORATE ENGAGEMENTVolunteer opportunities include the following:

  • A group of 20-30 men and women spend the morning bringing nutritious meals to homebound frail older adults through our Home Delivered Meals program.
  • Five to 10 men and women practice résumé writing and interview skills with high school and college students from our youth programs.
  • Groups of all sizes support the annual Goddard Riverside Book Fair in November, by sorting boxes of donated best sellers and then selling books during the weekend of the event.

FAMILY COUNCIL

HOLIDAY MEALS:  We need volunteers who can do the following:

  • Bake pies and cookies for our dessert table.
  • Prepare stuffing and carve turkeys with our kitchen team.
  • Serve Thanksgiving and/or Christmas dinners to our guests.
  • Deliver Thanksgiving and/or Christmas dinners to vulnerable homebound men and women.

OLDER ADULTS

STAR LEARNING CENTER: You can play an important role in improving a child’s life as an academic tutor at the Star Learning Center. Volunteers should be able to commit up to two hours a week and be at least 15 years old.
