stemThe STEM Institute was initiated in 1992 with NASA and CAHSEE support to ensure that Hispanic Americans, female, and other under-represented minority students achieve academic excellence by means of a continuous programmatic support during their pre-college, undergraduate, and graduate years.

The STEM Institute prepares students for the greater demands of college-level study and helps them adjust to campus life. It offers academic and tutoring support services designed to help students prepare for these new challenges.

STEM is a challenging academic enrichment program to encourage talented Latinos, female, and under-represented minority and disadvantaged high school students currently enrolled in the 9th, 10th , and 11th grades to pursue careers in the field of engineering, computer science, science, business management, entrepreneurs, and mathematics.

National Student Leader Conference

National Student Leader Conference (NSLC) provides students with the opportunity to experience life on a college campusdevelop essential leadership skills; and explore a future career through exciting simulationsexclusive site visits and interactive meetings with renowned leaders in their chosen field.

Leadership is the key to success in every profession and at the core of every NSLC youth leadership program. Health and Biomedical Sciences: Summer Camp

The Health and Biomedical Sciences Summer Camp at Lebanon Valley College in Annville, PA provides high school students a window into the scientific basis of human health.

Through lectures and hands-on laboratory investigations in state-of-the-art laboratories, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of molecular biology, pharmacology, immunology, biochemistry and medical ethics.

In addition, students will interact with practicing professionals in fields such as medicine, physical therapy, toxicology, genetic counseling and biomedical laboratory research. The Health and Biomedical Sciences camp will provide a fun, challenging and engaging college environment in which students will develop a deeper understanding of what it means to be a biomedical scientist and health professional.

Camp Details:

When: The Health and Biomedical Sciences Summer Camp will be held from July 26-31, 2020.
Where: Lebanon Valley College, Annville, Pa.
Cost: $1,000 (this all-inclusive camp fee covers room and board, laboratory supplies, lecture supplies, evening activities, guest speakers, etc.)

Cooper Union: SUMMER STEM PROGRAM

The School of Engineering’s Research Internship Program provides a great opportunity for high school students to tackle research problems in a college setting. Interns work in teams comprising of both high school sophomores and juniors on applied research projects under the constant guidance of Cooper Union undergraduate teaching assistants. Each project is supervised and mentored by Cooper Union faculty and covers fields such as civil, chemical, electrical, mechanical, biomedical and environmental engineering; mathematics, chemistry, and astronomy.

Summer STEM offers six week programs for high school sophomores and juniors and three week programs for high school freshman in design, engineering and hands-on problem-solving. Class projects cover topics from current problems in civil, chemical, electrical, and mechanical engineering. Students gain knowledge in an engineering field and guidance to address a real-world problem by designing and engineering a team project.
