New York City Department of Design and Construction

The New York City Department of Design and Construction (DDC), in partnership with the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (NYC DYCD), will offer a summer internship program for forty talented NYC high school students to work full-time, in-house, at DDC.
The High School Summer Internship Program is designed for students interested in pursuing careers in architecture, engineering, building trades, public administration, business administration or information technology. The program is structured to enable students to gain exposure to the many careers in the built environment and to learn about what it takes to build New York City. It is a unique opportunity to prepare students for the growing demands of the job market.
Assignments may include AutoCAD (computer-aided design) drafting for students interested in architecture or engineering, Internet research, word processing, spreadsheet creation, and other clerical work. Students work for six weeks, five days a week, in a program that combines hands-on work and educational programming.

Teen Career Connection: Summer Internship Program

Teen Career Connection is a paid summer internship program which provides opportunities for high school students to gain invaluable experience in the professional world. The chosen participants partake in an 8-week internship where they are placed in fields related to their career interests.

In addition to their experience, the participants are provided with

1. $1,250 stipend
2. $300 for professional clothing
3. 2 monthly unlimited metrocards

In order to qualify for the program you must
1. Be available for the entirety of the program (June 28th-August 23rd and September 9th)
2. Be a sophomore, junior, or senior in high school
3.  Live within the 5 boroughs

NYC School Construction Authority: Summer Internship Program

SCA’s Summer Internship Program (SIP) recruits talented NYC public high school juniors/seniors for a six-week internship with various SCA business partners, organizations and associations.

The internship is designed to expose students to the sponsor firm’s core business operations. Students work alongside professionals on a variety of administrative and more advanced hands on assignments. Students spend four days a week working at their sponsor firm and the remaining day of the week attending career development workshops and activities designed to help them succeed academically, personally and professionally.

Program Highlights:

  • Students receive career experience and mentoring.
  • Students attend career development workshops on business etiquette, business communication, financial planning, and college planning.
  • Rising seniors who successfully complete the six-week program receive one HS credit.
  • Students intern 30 hours per week from the first week in July through mid-August.
  • Students are paid a minimum wage salary.

U.S. Department of State Internship Program and Pathways Programs

The U.S. Department of State offers two programs for high school, undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate students who are interested in working in a foreign affairs environment.

U.S. Department of State Student Internship Program (unpaid)
This unpaid program, for students with a minimum of 60 credit hours or greater, provides the opportunity to work in U.S. Embassies throughout the world, as well as in various bureaus located in Washington, D.C. and at Department offices spread around the United States. This unpaid program is designed to provide substantive experiences in a Foreign Affairs environment.

Pathways Program (paid)
Pathways Program includes three paid Civil Service programs located in the United States.

Futures and Options: Internship Program

Futures and Options is a nonprofit career development and paid internship program for New York City youth.

The Core Internship Program is offered continuously throughout the year to juniors and seniors from New York City’s high schools. Private and nonprofit businesses are welcome to join as internship partners throughout the year, and represent various employment sectors – financial, small business, technology, real estate, retail and nonprofit. The interns attend monthly work-readiness workshops and meet for special career development and exploration field trips.

The Core Internship Program accepts applications on a rolling basis

Career Essentials Program offers students to participate in a series of workshops that focus on workplace readiness skills and career exploration.

YAB conducts one of the most innovative leadership-training programs for youth in the marketplace today. The vision of Youth About Business is to provide an innovative training program to prepare youth to be successful in a business environment. Our mission is to expose youth to business theory and principles through our experiential learning model. We work primarily with high school students, and we serve a very diverse population of young people. 

 

 

Bella Abzug Leadership Institute

The Bella Abzug Leadership Institute (BALI) mentors and trains young women in high school and college to be proactive, principle-driven leaders of tomorrow in fields that transform society and our political system for the betterment of women. Using the dynamic political and strategic leadership skills of the legendary lawyer, politician and activist Bella Abzug, BALI helps young women build the confidence and techniques necessary to be effective and visionary leaders in a wide variety of fields, and active participants in civic, corporate, political and community life.

Students in the BALI high school program participate in a two-week intensive debate training program led by our training partner, Impact Coalition, Inc.

Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP)

The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) provides New York City youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with summer employment and educational experiences that capitalize on their individual strengths, develop their skills and competencies, and connect them to positive adult role models. SYEP Provides seven weeks of entry-level work experience in a variety of jobs at community-based organizations, government agencies and private sector businesses.

SYEP offers work experience, teaches valuable employment skills, and provides you with a summer income. SYEP educational activities will enhance your summer experience, allowing you to develop career awareness, understanding of personal money management, and work-related social skills.

Exploring: Career Awareness Program

Exploring’s purpose is to provide experiences to help youth mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Exploring is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth and the organizations in their communities. Local businesses and organizations initiate an Explorer post by matching their professionals and program resources to the interests of the youth in the community. The result is a program of activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow and develop.

Exploring is broken up into three programs: Business or Career Exploring (incl. healthcare); Law Enforcement; Fire & Emergency Services.
